The Real Reason Medications Stop Working (And What To Do Instead)

Why Medications Work (and Why They Don’t Always Solve the Problem)

This is a great question. If mental and emotional issues are behind diseases, why do some medications or treatments seem to work? Why do they make symptoms vanish or even cure certain disorders? Let’s break it down in a way that makes sense—and doesn’t make your brain hurt.

Here’s the deal: we’re physical beings. And because we’re physical, other physical things can affect us. Science has figured out how to use one physical “thing” (like a medication) to cancel out another physical “thing” (like a symptom). It’s kind of like when two sound waves meet, and one cancels out the other. Boom. Symptom gone.

This is the principle behind medications and even homeopathy: if you hit the right frequency, it cancels out the signal, at least temporarily. For example, painkillers can block the sensation of pain, and antibiotics can knock out an infection. These are undeniably physical effects. But—and this is where it gets tricky—it’s often just a surface-level fix.

Why Medications Don’t Always Keep Working

Let’s say you’re prescribed something for chronic pain. At first, it’s magic. Relief! Then, a few months later, your dose has to increase because the pain creeps back. Eventually, you might need so much medication that it stops working entirely or starts causing other problems (cue side effects like weight gain, fatigue, or something worse).

Why does this happen? Because medication is treating the physical manifestation of a deeper issue—it’s like slapping duct tape over a leaky pipe. The leak might stop for now, but the water is still building up.

The Body’s Messages: Ignored at Your Own Peril

Here’s where it gets interesting: your symptoms aren’t random. They’re messages from your higher self (or soul, or inner wisdom—whatever you like to call it). They’re saying, “Hey, something’s out of balance here. Pay attention!”

When you ignore these messages—by suppressing them with meds, distractions, or sheer willpower—your body has no choice but to speak louder. At first, it whispers:

  • A little tension.

  • A headache here and there.

  • Maybe a weird rash.

When you keep ignoring it? The whispers become screams:

  • Chronic pain.

  • Digestive issues.

  • Even life-threatening diseases.

And yes, even if you cut out or medicate the “problem” (like a bad knee or a cancerous tumor), the underlying issue does not go away. You’re still carrying the same mental and emotional patterns that caused the problem to begin with.

How It All Starts

The root of most diseases lies in the stories we tell ourselves—about our worth, our value, and our place in the world. Early on in life, we absorb beliefs like:

  • “I’m not good enough.”

  • “Love is conditional.”

  • “I have to be perfect to be accepted.”

When these beliefs take hold, we abandon parts of ourselves to stay “safe” in our environment. (Because as kids, attachment = survival.) The first signals from our higher self show up as bad thoughts and feelings. But instead of dealing with them, most of us stuff them down, slap on a smile, and push through.

Over time, this creates resistance—energetic and emotional blockages that distort how our body functions. Think of your body like an electrical wire. If there’s too much resistance in the wire, it overheats. In your body, that “heat” looks like inflammation.

So What’s the Solution?

If you want real, lasting healing, you have to dig deeper. You have to get to the root of the problem: the distorted beliefs and unresolved emotions you’ve been carrying around.

This is what I do. Using tools like Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness-based therapy, hypnotherapy, and Reiki energy healing, I help clients interpret the messages their body is sending. Whether it’s knee pain, cancer, or something in between, your body has a language—it’s just waiting for you to listen.

If you’re ready to stop masking symptoms and start healing for real, let’s work together. Your higher self is already trying to reach you. Let’s make sure you’re picking up the call.
